21 May 2017

LIAS and the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers had the honour to meet with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Peter Millet, Secondary Secretary Political Jonathan Worgan and Senior Political Officer Youcef Marzooq to analyze the importance of the Libya Tribal and Women Leaders Movement. At the end of the meeting, all parties agreed on supporting a movement working toward identifying and supporting a common identity given the country’s dynamic social fabric—through a comprehensively designed and agreed Social Contract—is vital to peace in Libya. Such an advancement must be done by Libyan civil society organizations and would directly support reconciliation at the local level linking to the state formation level.
